One of the greatest seasons of opportunity came from an unexpected corner. Thirteen years after we had arrived, during Vatican II, the pope declared it was permissible for Catholics to read the Bible. A great openness to the Bible followed, and Bible classes seemed to spring up everywhere.
One example of our labors is the church we helped a team of missionaries plant in Kamuning, Quezon City. We began evangelizing the area in 1974. Today, the church is an established church that has planted eight daughter churches and four granddaughter churches, and they even adopted a church! They have sent out more than one hundred missionaries, pastors, and Christian workers to different parts of Asia and even to North America.
We are thankful to God for graciously giving us faithful donors and prayer partners who enabled us to stay in the Philippines for thirty-six years. We stayed long enough to see spiritually hard, resistant people become some of the most responsive people in the world.
